Witness – by Karen Hesse (FIC HES

No one is safe in a small town of 1924 Vermont when the Ku Klux Klan moves in. Most vulnerable are twelve year old Leonora, an African American girl, and six year old Esther who is Jewish. As the bigotry and violence increases the town’s true villains and heroes are revealed, and unexpected changes come to the town and all of is residents. This powerful story that is told by several different characters (with clashing viewpoints) in haunting free verse, will be thought about long after the last page is turned. Castaways of the Flying Dutchman – by Brian Jacques (FIC JAC)
Mystery, adventure and the supernatural combine in this rousing fantasy that begins with a shipwreck in the early 1600’s and ends up in late 19th century England. Ben (a mute) and his loyal companion, a black Lab named Ned, stowaway on the "Flying Dutchman", a ship that is bound for legend as a ghost ship captained by a madman and cursed to sail the seas forever. Ben and Ned are saved by an avenging angel who gives them the gifts of speech and eternal youth, and also a task to perform for as long as they walk upon the earth. Walk Two Moons - by Sharon Creech (FIC CRE)

Walk Two Moons is anything but ordinary as it weaves together multiple stories. In the course of travel, Sal begins to peel back the layers of her own emotional history. Her journey is funny, mysterious, and touching. During her travels, Sal learns a lot of important life issues. This is a great novel and everyone who has the opportunity should read it. This is a great adventure book for those who love animals and exciting quests. It is a story of friendship, betrayal, sacrifice, and a young deer’s mystical journey to escape death. City of Beasts - by Isabel Allende (FIC ALL)

If you enjoy adventure and exotic places this is the  book for you. Fifteen year old Alexander travels with his cranky and eccentric grandmother to the Amazon Jungle in Brazil. They are in search of the Wild Beast that has been sited by various people in the jungle. The scent of the beast is enough to make people pass out!
 Will Alexander encounter the beast?
While traveling with a 
 team of photographers and scientists, Alexander meets Nadia, a
 young girl who has been raised in the Amazon. She is able to
 communicate fluently with the local Indians and receives a special
 visit from the local shaman. The shaman says that she and
