LIBRARY MISSION

Livonia’s mission is to produce students who meet the following proficiencies:

 

 

FACILITY

 

The Livonia Junior High Library opened in January 2002 as part of the new Junior High building.The 2700 sq. ft. facility includes a library office, AV storage room, and sixteen student computer workstations as well as teaching, reading, and research areas.

 

STAFF

 

The library is staffed by a New York State certified School Library Media Specialist, Jody Duggan-Lay and a certified  Library Teaching Assistant, Debbie Streeter.

HOURS

 

The library is open from 7:15AM to 3:15PM, Monday through Friday. Students must have a library pass during class periods. There are two types of passes:

  • A 10-minute pass issued by the study hall monitor to check out/return books, read magazines or the newspaper, or for quick research questions.
  • A full period Research pass issued by the teacher the student is doing research for.
Homework that does not need the use of library resources is expected to be done in study hall.

 

CIRCULATION

 

Students may check out a maximum of three materials. If students have any overdues their borrowing privileges will be suspended until overdues are returned or compensated for.

 

  • Books – two week circulation
  • Magazines – two week circulation, only one magazine may checked out at a time and the current issue may not be checked out.
  • Video tapes – one week circulation, only one video may be checked out at a time.
  • Reference and reserve materials may not be checked out.

 

     

COLLECTION

 

  • The library currently has about 9000 volumes.
  • Subscriptions to 20 periodicals.
  • Video library of about 400 tapes, half of which are circulated to students.
  • Online databases such as ProQuest (magazine articles) and World Book Online (encyclopedia).

 

 TECHNOLOGY

 

The library is automated using the Follett system for the online catalog, circulation and library management. Sixteen student computer work stations offer access to the catalog, internet and various databases that are subscribed to through LCS or Genesee Valley BOCES (see online databases). Library computers are part of the district wide network and are able to be used for word processing and other multimedia activities if they are not being used for library research purposes.
