The sun is a star, not a planet.  It is a huge, glowing ball of gas at the center of our solar system.

The sun is the star that our planet, Earth, orbits.  It takes Earth one year to go around the sun.

The sun is very, very hot--millions of degrees hot.  There are cooler, darker spots on the sun called sunspots.

The sun is enormous.  Over a million planet Earths could fit inside the sun.

The sun is the source of Earth's light and energy.  Usually the sun looks round to us, but sometimes the moon is between the earth and the sun.  Then we see a solar eclipse.
