What's the Reading Record for? As part of a nation-wide effort by the National Education Association, children across the country will be celebrating Read Across America Day, in honor of the birthday of Dr. Seuss, the famous children’s author of The Cat in the Hat. The Primary and Intermediate School Libraries invite you to make a special effort to read with your child for 60 minutes over the next few days. You may count time you read to your child, or books your child reads independently. You can get a copy of the Reading Record by clicking on the link above. What can we read? You may count time you read to your child, or books your child reads independently. You can read to your child, or have your child read to you. You can read a picture book, a children’s magazine, a chapter from a longer book, fiction or non-fiction…whatever you and your child would enjoy. When is it due? By Monday, March 3, send the Reading Record back to school with your child. All the reading records will be collected in the library. On Friday, during our special events to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday, we will randomly select a few children’s names from among the reading records, and award a few small prizes. We will award one Grand Prize per building, which is a one-year family membership to the Strong Museum! |
