ARAccelerated Reader Home

Accelerated Reader™ is a very popular computer program at the Primary School.  The children love to test themselves on their reading comprehension by taking a brief AR quiz in their classroom or in the library.  Most students begin taking AR tests in second grade, but some begin in kindergarten and first grade.  Your child's teacher will let you know.

How does it work?

    J

  • The student chooses an AR book, marked with the "AR" symbol, from the library. There are over 3500 of them in the Primary Library.  The AR list includes animal books, picture books, easy readers, folktales and fairy tales, chapter books...there's something for every child.

  • After reading the book, the child takes a 5, 10, or 15 question quiz.  The computer keeps track of what quizzes have been taken, and what score was achieved.

  • A number of classroom and school-wide incentives are offered throughout the year, offering rewards for the AR points earned.
